Looking for tips on how to clean a stained glass lampshade that I purchased on HSN or QVC?

  • I dust mine, take it off the lamp, and then use mild soap and water with a cloth. Then I dry it with a soft towel. I do this in my kitchen sink.

I have one that is fairly old. I have a makeup brush that I gently dust it with. It rarely needs more than that.

Hi Jill, Just a few questions....does the soldered lead have a patina? Meaning, are the seams in between the glass pieces silver metal color, black, or copper? I do stained glass so I know exactly what you need to get. In either case even with a patina, this product should be ok to use. I never use patinas on my stained glass and this is the product I use to give a very nice shine on the lead seam. It also cleans the glass as well.

When you use it, it will be like a white paste and you will apply it just like you apply a cleaner to a glass stovetop. Or polish to silver. You wipe it and continue to wipe it with a rag. You will rub the solder seams over and over and the rag in parts will turn black. That is the tarnish that is coming off....sort of like polishing silver. Now I do see it does say on the bottle that you can use it with patina'd solder so it should be ok even if your seams are black or copper. Good luck! Enjoy your stained glass....sounds pretty.

Very carefully dust and then wipe with a cloth with a few drops of Dawn on it. But take your time and be gentle. Be sure to set it down to dry on a towel and let it air dry. The less you are messing with it the better. Good luck!

I take the lampshade off my 1918 lamp, I dust it then use a microfiber cloth with some dawn and water, then rinse really well to leave no soap residue. I let mine air dry, but you can dry it with a soft cloth.

I use a microfiber duster that "grabs" the dirt. You can also use canned air to spray it off.
