How can i update a brick fireplace that’s been paid and completely white? The mantel is brick also.
You could created a wood mantle by encasing the brick one that is already there. Something like this:
I think it’s really beautiful! Maybe adding a wooden mantle would help break up all that white. Maybe something like we did here? https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2019/05/how-to-build-faux-fireplace-in-corner.html?m=1
I don’t know what your colors are but I have seen them painted a dark navy blue and it looks fabulous.then decorate the top with a great light colored mirror and candle holders maybe some topiarys.
I like the wood mantle ideas. You can also re-paint the bricks in another color, and you can hang some art above the mantle.
Something like this might look nice. You already have the whitewashed bricks, so you'd just need to add the wood surround: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qed9UN_1Uow
Terri: You may just want to repaint... and see how that looks... Mine is painted a deeper color of cream. THEN decide on the mantel. You may even be able to "get away with" painting the mantel and hearth a shade darker than the face brick of the fireplace... a simple update!
I would paint the existing brick mantle another color. Oil Rubbed Bronze would look fabulous.
I would distress the paint, but adding something like a light antiquing gel to it. Then I would add a wooden mantel and a beautiful, freestanding fireplace screen. I think it could be really outstanding.

I love the white brick, I would just add fun accessories!
I think take a wire brush and lightly distress it
If you don't like the stark white use a colored wash to dull it down.
I would add a glaze to the mantle so it would stand out. Then a large mirror, clock, or wreath based on your preference. Add decor items in groupings of 3.
Use sandpaper or a wire brush to remove some of the paint for a weathered look
I love the white, clean design! I would add some art pieces in colors you love and let the fireplace be the background. A wonderful opportunity for a unique look rather than the same old usual dark mantle cutting the wall in half.
so true!! Thank you. Now I’m searching for art!
It all depends what is your style but bringing a nice pice of wood for the mantel would for sure define that wall . Some decor in different heights on the side of hearth and you are good if you are looking for budget friendly makeover
You could try sponging some purplish-red paint on each brick then white wash over it
So I was selling my old house from the 80's and wanted to faux marble the fireplace. I used masonry white paint then took a sea sponge and sponged on a couple different shades of gray. I then blew some silver glitter (Valspar) into the wet paint to give it a marble look. The person who purchased my home thought it was imported marble!
You could use different decor to make it pop, depending on your style
Hi Terry: You could paint the top one colour and the bottom another contrasting but complimentary colour and perhaps paint the mantel brown to look like wood. Good luck
I like that idea!!!
