How do I repurpose built in log storage?

Hello! We recently replaced our wood burning stove with a pellet stove. I would like some ideas on how to use the brick log storage corner for something as the pellets are stored in the garage and we just grab a bag when needed. It’s semi-circle half wall, that’s about 3 feet tall on the part that’s not attached to the walls. It’s currently just sitting empty.

The cat is movable.

If you have no shelves in that area I would put built in shelves and treat it like a bookcase. And style it accordingly.

Do you have a photo so that we can share more info?

      My pic posted sideways...

  • I've seen people put plants in the space. For example, get a large galvanized tub in and plant a big green fern inside it and tuck the entire planter into the space. Or you could add a large faux floral arrangement in the space as well. I've seen that done too.

I've also seen people stack pretty wood, like birch logs in the space for decor...

Sarah: you could put a large plant/planter in it.

Hi! You could use it for a display niche or storage, depending on it's size. Could shelves be put in?

If it's not going to be used, you could fill it with books like this: https://thehoneycombhome.com/one-room-challenge-the-reveal/

Good place to keep fireplace tools (we use them with our wood stove), matches or however you light the pellet stove, and any other stove related items.

Can we see a photo? That may help get you more ideas?

Perhaps use it as a storage area by adding shelves and baskets, or maybe you can find a large trunk that has some personality to put in the space to store items.

It could be used as a display spot for photos or other items. You also store some nice looking logs in there. You could also place candles in there and light them occasionally.

    How about this solution:

Make the faux log board and add a hinge to create covered storage in the cubby.

Now that I see your picture, the first think that came to mind was making it a planter!

use it as a planter or for storing blankets and throws - you could also fill it in and use as a platform seat for reading

You can use it as a planter for real plants or fake plants. Personally I would remove it and use the corner for a built in bookcase or curio cabinet.

How about putting a piece of wood (looks like a quarter of a circle) on the top? Cover it with some kind of foam cushion covered with fabric. Basically, make it into a bench. Good luck.

  • Dee Dee on Mar 24, 2020

I would either get a real nice plant, or cover the top and use it as a shelf or a seating area.

    Hello,

Could make it into a storage seat or Table/storage shelf..............

Two bricks high is not that tall. Add a piece of wood to the top cut to the curve of the brick and make a pillow topper from foam or stuff with batting. Add some pillows to the back for a cute seat. Brace the back with wood legs to support the wood top without drilling into the brick.

Oh that’s easy make a indoor terrarium put real plants or you could do fake plants build it up almost to the top then add colored mulch you could even do a fish pond

Good luck hope it comes nice put some lights to

  • How about an indoor pond? Line the brick wall with water impermiable barrier and in the back corner install a small fountain or a vintage statue, then add gold fish or koi and add a few pond lilies or tall planters with a variety of colorful plants (just make sure they have holes near bottom of planter so water can continue feeding the plants). After the plants and fish get established, then it will continue to provide a serene setting in that area of your house and both the fish and plants will develop an almost self sufficient way of life with each other.
