Vintage Trunk Turned Treasure
Can you share a photo of how it’s broken? That would help. :)
Im in process of doing the same for a trunk that I have, Im going to be different & use rope to make it look sea worthy, Beachy .
Anita...have you thought about using an old leather belt
Hi Anita. If the handles have hardware on them, take the handle apart and put the hardware pieces in a crock pot, cover them with water. Set the crock pot on Low and leave it over night. Next day take it all out and rinse with clean water. Good luck Anita.
A leather belt would work for the handles. You can also find leather straps and pieces in assorted sizes at Hobby Lobby.
Hello. If you were doing an authentic trunk restoration there are companies that sell the hardware. There are a few around I am not sure if this is in your budget. Here’s a link to have a look.

Are you trying to repair the original or replace them? Are they leather or material like rope or mesh cotton? Both Etsy and Amazon have replacements.

If they are metal, it might be easier to replace them.
What exactly is wrong with the handles now, or what do you feel needs to be fixed? In may be that total replacement may be the most thorough solution. Posting a picture of the handles with your question would help illustrate what you have to work with.
Anita: you could even use thick hemp rope as handles
You would have to remove them and add new in the old holes
