A cool and minimalistic wooden shelf to include our littlest son's room makeover. Such a simple yet decorative piece of furniture that holds lots of books, toys and decor. My husband did the measurements that needed to be unique for our non-straight walls (cottage life...) and he cut the pieces that I sanded and screwed together followed by a quick spraying with protective, matte cover. It's so easy to make and if you don't have a big machine, you can always use a hand saw to cut the pieces.

The new shelving unit on it's place

Loved designing this shelving unit for my 5 years old son. He's obsessed with dinosaurs in fact he's got some huge ones that needed a good place to display. This shelf is perfect for it!

Cutting the sides

Husband is cutting with his big machine

He's making sure we've got the right angles for our uneven old cottage walls. But this part can be cone by hand saw as well.

Filing and sanding

Gentle sanding by hand

To make sure we get rid of any sharp corners and edges

The pieces

All pieces cut, sanded, pre-holed and ready to put together.

Assembling

This was such a fun part I felt like I'm actually creating something really big :)

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

Spray covering

Protective coat

All done and designed. Holds a lot of books, toys and more.

We love how it turned out

Looks very pretty in Felix's new room :)

How did you fasten it to the wall? Nothing was mentioned about that. Thanks for sharing a really great project. I'm sure Felix loves it!

Great project. It is a great piece that can remain a staple in his room as he grows. I also LOVE that you have constellations mapped out on his wall mural above a mountain range. It's wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

You mentioned that the walls are not straight. How did you get the shelves to lie level when assembled outside?

That wouldn’t be good... We warned him about it so hopefully he’ll listen. Thanks so much for the good advice! It’s definitely better to be more careful!

It's a great addition to your son's room and to think you were able to make it your self, very special indeed, the room looks great.
