We have a very basic, plain front door that needed an update. Because exterior doors are expensive, we decided to update it with items we had on hand. I even built a dentil shelf.

Best glue!

If you're looking for a glue that will hold, this is the glue that Amazon reviewers swear by!

Before

I really wanted to make this door look more expensive. I was able to update it using items I already had.

Adding a Dentil Shelf

I made this dentil shelf from a scrap piece of 1 x 2 and 2 x 2 I had laying around. I fastened it to the door using 2 inch nails and my nail gun.

Adding Trim

I used pieces of basswood strips that were 1/8 inch thick and 3 x 24 inches. I used E6000 glue to attach them to the door.

Adding a Mirror

I wanted to add the illusion of a window to the door using this arched mirror I had.

Adding the Window (Mirror)

I painted the mirror white to match the door then hung the mirror on the door using the existing D-ring hooks and screws.

Painting

I then painted the entire door in Antique White from Glidden. I used a satin finish.

Finished

I’m so in love with how this turned out. Using just things I had around my house I was able to give this door new life. Now to do the outside!!

Did you put a new floor in too?

I love what you did and I can see this is probably one of the most popular posts because the transformation is significant.
