Washing? Sanitizing 18 L water bottle?

Put 1 tsp (4.9 mL) unscented bleach into 1 US gal (3.8 L) water in the bottle for 2 to 4 minutes. Place bottle out on a clean towel or dry-rack in an area free from dirt or dust until you’re ready to use it. Don’t rinse it first; doing that will transfer germs back onto it. Any bleach remaining will break down as they dry and will be harmless

Add a few drops of Dawn, put the cap back on and shake and shake. Then after rinsing I add a few drops of bleach and repeat. William is right don't rinse. Let is air dry and you good to use again.

I would use bleach and water.

Wash them daily in hot sudsy water, putting the cap on and shaking vigorously. Rinse, drain upside down.

What was in the bottle previously? just water? With the size I am guessing no one is drinking out of the bottles. Are you using them in a restaurant? Is that why they need to be sanitized? If they are for home use and no one out putting their mouths on them, hot water and soap should be sufficient

Baking soda with water solution always works for me to disinfect anything

I use big bottles when I make beer homemade I clean and sanities with bleach let them dry out completely then cover opening with plastic wrap

If you can get your hands on Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, it is what is used to sterilize the inside of commercial food processing plants “filler lines”.

In the states, one can find it in >3% strength. I’ve found it up to 15% strength and at that strength, it is very caustic and one must wear gloves and dilute it with distilled water.

I would think hot soapy water and dawn. Maybe even soak them in a large container for a bit. I don't know if I'd use bleach though if it is a plastic bottle.

Just use a bit of bleach in warm water. Swish it around making sure it covers the entire surface. Rinse well and then let it dry.

If you don't have lids, then put a piece of paper towel on top and secure with a rubber band.

When you finish a bottle, store it upside down so dust doesn't fall in. Some people keep full bottle mouth up & then place empties mouth down braced between the full ones. Alternatively, you can balance them over small cullenders instead.

You want to keep out dust and debris in the first place but you also want them to dry out. Any water left inside can feed mold or bacterial growth.

Once completely 100% dry, you can cover the mouth with cling film & a rubber band for extra protection.

Any cheap method of cleaning out a bottle that is already dirty or musty is going to involve rinsing with a lot of water after. If you need 5 gallon bottles of water for drinking or household use, that is counter productive. Splurge on the expensive cleaners once, then don't let them get gross again.

I clean and sanitize my stainless tumbler with denture tablet and warm water. Rinse well. You might consider that option.
