This dresser was for a special friend of mine! They were redoing their master bedroom, and she wanted a mid century style dresser. Normally I don’t travel too far to pick up pieces, but when we’re working with a budget, MCM dressers are hard to come by. This was an hour drive to get this piece, but I am so glad I did!

Remove hardware and sand down the piece!

Here we’re working with plywood, so you don’t want to be too aggressive with the sanding use 150 grit or higher on a palm sander.

Fresh slate to work with for stain!

she wanted a medium brown colour for the whole pieces so we used a provincial stain.

DIY mid century legs

my client loved the look of the slanted legs! Almost all hardware stores carry these slanted angle brackets, but if not, amazon does sell them!

Wood putty

Since were working with plywood some veneer was used and had been chipping so I used some wood filler!

Attaching the legs

Attaching the hardware and adding the legs! This gave it the added touch that this dresser needed!

BEFORE - the legs were changed

This is what the dressers legs looked like and came with.

Choosing hardware

Was the dresser made from cabinet grade plywood?

It looks like there was a fake wood veneer on it. If so, did you just scuff the shine of the veneer the stain it?

Wish there was a picture of it after you sanded it down.

Great job! Your explanations and pictures were just fine. The wood grain, even in plywood ,can still be quite interesting, can it not?
