Confetti Serving Tray (Fun Project With Kids)

4 Materials
2 Days

If you're looking for a fun project, especially one that can help you keep kids busy inside these days, this could be a great project for you. We're combining a fun material kids can help create and some colorful choices for them that make each version different. A small piece of scrap plywood, some confetti and epoxy make for a colorful serving tray.

Start with a piece of plywood (or any wood you have laying around that is the right size) for your base. We used 3/4" plywood. Then, build a form around it with laminated MDF board.

Secure the MDF frame with nails and caulk the inside edges.

Spread confetti across your board, inside the forms. We had some confetti we'd bought on Amazon. However, this is where you can get creative and have some fun with kids. Select several different colors of construction paper and cut them up into small confetti pieces. We've even talked about adding some variety by mixing in stickers, baseball cards or whatever you want to be the fun visual element covering the top of your tray.

Mix your epoxy and then spread it out on top of the confetti. When the epoxy dries, pull off the laminated wood frame. Tape the edges (to prevent chipping) and trim an 1/8" off each edge with a saw to get rid of an imperfections around the sides.

Attach simple cabinet/drawer pull handles to the sides of the tray.

The process leaves you with one very colorful serving tray to use for summer gatherings or in a kid's play kitchen. Whatever you choose, have some fun with this project and mix it up!
