You can paint designs onto them. You can go abstract or use stencils.
Clear or colored nail polish? Do you want to change the color or look of the plate or just clear coat it to protect them?

That isn't nail polish.
You can do the same with spray paint if you wish. A bucket of water and spray paint the water then dip the plate into it.
