Try spray of WD40 wipe of after 5 mins. Should remove it for you, but it will come back unless you paint with Enamel paint for repairs.

You've gotten some good advice here! If you get a lot of rust stains, you might also look into eventually getting a softener system for your house to help reduce minerals and hard water.

CLR brand cleaner (stands for Calcium,Lime & Rust remover,Other brands aren't as effective,In my opinion) it's a liquid, non-abrasive option for rust stain & hard water stain/calcium build up.My 2nd favorite to remove rest, Polish stainless steel pot & pans (mine are 16+ yrs old & look like I just bought them) is bar keeper's friend powdered cleanser (which is powdered oxalic acid,Wear dishwashing gloves or your 1st layer of skin will peel painlessly yet aesthetically ugly) ) it's sold next to Comet,Ajax,etc in the grocery store cleaning isle.If scratching the gelcoat isn't a concern because you have porcelain fixtures, Instead of fiberglass,etc...You can use a green heavy-duty kitchen scrubbie along with the BKF to remove the rest stain even better.I use this method mostly when recycling vintage tubs,sinks,etc when flipping old homes that need period correct bathroom/kitchen fixtures & the only ones I can find need TLC to be cleaned up with elbow grease because they're stained but not chipped.All else fails,Muratic Acid with chemical resistant gloves, protective gear & tools following guidelines EXACTLY & have lots of fresh water to be able to immediately neutralize the chemical reaction.Muratic Acid is the last resort to remove stain before refinishing, reglazing or replacing is required

My mom used this on everything growing up b/c we had a well with a lot of iron in the water.

Get CLR And soak a rag and let it sit on the stain over night it will be gone in the morning

I would try CLR first.

I too would try CLR or another rust removing cleaner first as well.

It could be that the rust has developed due to the coating having been worn off of the shower pan. How old is it, and is it made from metal?
