How do you clean a slow cooker after it’s just sat there with cooked food in it?

Does it have a ceramic liner that lifts out? If the liner is intact, without any cracks or chips, you should be able to scrub it out and then wash it at a high temperature in a dishwasher. Personally, I wouldn't want it. I would replace it. But,if you are determined to salvage it, that's what I would do.

I would dig out all the solids and throw them away. Then I would fill the crock part with warm soapy water and let it soak for a long time eventually using a plastic spatula to scrape off the wet soggy sides and bottom. Dumping it all out and then soaking some more until it's clean and washing until it's all clean. If you don't want to just throw it all out I suggest doing this.

Put food in a bag seal it up and through it away. If the pot is removable soak it with antibacterial soap. If it doesn't come out fill it up with soap and water. Let it set 30 min. Or so in hot water. After that sump water and scub with sos pads with soap. Rinse toughly and dry.

  • After removing the contents and hand-washing it, it could probably go in the dishwasher. Personally, I would throw it away.

Hi Julie. You could clean your slow cooker by first removing the food and scraping out as much as you could. Fill it with water. And add a couple squirts of Dawn dish soap. Let it soak overnight. The next morning dump the water out. Fill the slow cooker with water again and a couple squirts of Dawn dish soap. Use a nonabrasive scrubbing pad and scrub it until it's clean. Good luck Julie.

  • Remove the content, add new hot water and dish soap. Bring to the boil and simmer until all the leftover food becomes soft and it should all just wipe off.

If the food is moldy, you could wear a face mask, scrape it out and discard the contents. If it has a lift out ceramic liner, take it out and let soak in hot soapy water until it can be scrubbed. If the ceramic liner does not lift out, cover the remains with water and add some baking soda, turn it on low to heat up the water, let it set until the food is loosened. Dump and scrub.

I would let it soak a good long while. Soak, dump, soak, dump a few times. Then scrub. Then repeat.

Or just throw the whole thing out.

Scrape out as much as you can then soak it in hot water and dawn for 30 minutes. Drain it and soak again with hot water and dawn for 30 more minutes. Now see if it comes out easily. If not keep trying this until it loosens.

you could put water and a couple drops of dawn liquid detergent and let it cook on low for a couple of hours- see if that helps but crockpots are relatively cheap I think I would throw it out and buy a new one- look in thrift stores like Goodwill too

  • I would soak it with really hot water and some dish detergent. Then wipe it clean with a sponge that has a rough side that will get the gunk off.

  • I wouldn't reuse for food use but don't throw it out! Old crockpots are a great way to clean hardware!
