How can I upcycle this old plant stand to use as storage for my craft?

Seems to me you could use it as is just fine. Maybe give it a coat of paint and put some nice storage bins on it to keep things organized.

I would buy some baskets or clear boxes at Dollar Tree and put your craft items in them then put on the shelves. You could also paint it if you wanted to. I don't know how sturdy it is or how much weight it may hold but you could put the heavier items on the bottom.

Hi! Great idea! If you have bins, that would be an easy way. If you don't have them, shop your home for containers that would fit. Anything from cardboard to tin to shoeboxes. Do you have contact paper? Easy and fun project upcycling project. No contact paper? Mod Podge? Fabric? Wrapping paper? Use what you have! Once you have your containers, arrange your storage. If you have paint, you could paint the stand (if you want) before putting it all together. Have fun, stay home and be well!

Rather depends on how strong it is and what your craft is, and what you have to store. Full length of stand and idea of what you need to store might help in suggestions! You could always use it to store boots on!!

Spray paint it a pretty color and then use plastic storage bins that you can stack!

I have a stand exactly like that but it is longer. Can be a real pain to dust. But mine had been used as a plant stand and kept outside. I brought it in, sanded it (with a the strange shapes it took 2 days). Then used some cheap walmart paint (less then $1 per can) and painted it black. I would suggest to seal this is you plan on using outside. Also secure this unit to the wall by adding a screw somewhere in the frame that doesn't show.

Hi Deborah, that is super for a storage idea, you can add in an extra shelf on the tall stretches, not sure i=of the size, but if it has spaces of 12" x 12" it will hold the cube containers on each shelf, it will look tidier than having items loose on the shelves, and hold more items. i attached a pic of how tidy the cube bins loo on the shelf as well

I would put a basket on each shelf for your different craft items.

What a nice stand, a pain to dust! I would put plastic sheets over the slats to keep the dust out of the corners, add baskets. To keep dust off maybe cover it with a sheet.

You could chalk paint it and then add some small baskets (Target has a ton of different sized baskets) on a couple of the stands for storage.

I would tip the whole unit over on the right side so that the 'shelf' space was larger. Cut foam board (usually real estate offices have old for sale signs that they will give you for free) to fit over the front and back rails, so that stuff doesn't fall through.

Crazy glue (spread with a popsicle stick) should help anchor the board on to the rails so that it doesn't slip when small bins or baskets are slid onto the shelf. If desired, you could cover with wallpaper or contact paper before gluing on to the rails.

I saw someone mention wrapping paper for decopage and it sparked a thought.

I might convert it to an organizer for gift wrapping supplies.

If you remove some of the slats from the uppermost shelf, you can create a gap for wrapping paper tubes to stand upright. Depending on the dementions of your plant stand, you might want to remove slats from the middle shelf on the same side as well. Then use bins to organize bags, tissue paper, ribbons, & bows on the remaining shelves

I would turn it onto its right side, cut and place poster board between the slatted areas to make larger storage area (shelves) and use for light weight items. Perhaps you have a dresser to place it on. Within the open area on the left also add a poster board base and place a trailing plant.

I would just add baskets or bins. A fresh coat of paint would help to liven it up.

That would make perfect basket holder! And store stuff in the baskets

I came to Google looking for some ideas because I have that exact plant stand just slightly bigger and I'm upcycling to use in my room for storage. I'm planning to sand it and paint it white and use some fabric boxes to organize. I may add some extra wood in places to make it sturdier and/or change the appearance or use of the space... like maybe some wood backing or to make the surface not have the slots.
