Being stuck indoors I’ve decided to bake a cake. I used a 13x9 Farberware coated baking pan. So, after I frosted it I placed the plastic lid on it to keep it fresh. Well it’s been 2 days now and I still can’t get the lid off! I want a piece of cake! Help!

Like most have said, just heat up your pan. After a bit it should pop off. It doesn't even need to be real hot. Enough to build a bit of pressure.

In my case; if the lid is being real stubborn, even after heating the pot up, grab a rubber mallet (or a hammer). Holding the knob/handle of the lid, lightly tap on the lip edge of the pot while pulling the lid. It did the trick nicely.

Oct 13, 2015 · Heat the pan again and quickly remove the lid. If you have to, put a cold, wet cloth on the lid. The heat should expand the bottom (the pan) and the lid should lift out. Don't leave it while the pan is heating. If you wait for the lid to get hot, you'll still have the same problem.

Take a silverware knife, work it between the plastic lid and the side of the pan and gently push the lid up in one corner until it pops open. You may have to work at this for a few minutes but it should work!

Chriss: use a hair dryer on a corner --- it'll remove fairly easily. Let them eat cake!

Hi Chriss, hope this helps you out, Place pan in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes and try to remove lid by lifting away. If the lid still won't come off, tap firmly around the rim of the pan and then the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon and try lifting the lid. Repeat the previous steps until the lid comes off if needed.

Think of the calories you are saving and burning trying to open this!

The freezer or hairdryer would work. Hope it was worth all your effort. Yum.

Tried a few of the tips but none have worked so far....as if we don’t have enough issues to deal with now! Stay safe.

Get the glass really cold, then heat the lid with a hot cloth to make it expand, easy peasy! Enjoy that piece of cake.

I would put it in the oven at 200 degrees just enough to make the lid warm and then take a knife and run it under the plastic if it does not come right off.

Great that you are getting a replacement. I should have mentioned that, because I had Pyrex replace a lid for me, because it cracked. The opposite of your problem.

      Stay healthy.

Can you warm it slightly? That should break the seal.

Out of curiosity, did you frost your cake *after* it had cooled completely?

As a young newlywed, I accidentally melted a carry cover onto my cake pan!

I was doing a melted chocolate-marshmellow topping & was running late. So, to save time, I dumped on chocolate chips & mini marshmallows almost immediately after pulling the cake from the oven, swirled it a bit with a spatula, & slapped on the lid. My husband was a bit embarrassed when the cake for his work potluck couldn't be opened.

I promise my technique for smores cake has much improved in the last 20 years. But on that day, we went cakeless & I had to saw off the lid with a hot bread knife at home. Both pan & lid had to be tossed (after my husband ate every bite of that abused confection).
