Hi Joan, I usually line the bottom of window boxes with diapers (to hold water), and then use a combination of trailing plants and taller blooms. Hope this helps!

HI Joan! You can plant right in your coconut liner, you do not have to put a plastic liner in it. You can use the diapers to keep moisture in. When selecting plants, think about a "filler" a "thriller" and a "spiller" ...one plant to fill the space, one that is really beautiful and something to spill or trail out over the edge of the box.
Since yours has a coconut liner, you can plant directly in it. I do it all the time. When you choose your plants, consider the amount of light your location gets so they will do well.
So cute, I love your filler, thriller and spiller. Thanks so much!
Hello. I would choose plants appropriate for your area and sun shade exposure. Is it a nice combination to have upright plants that flower as well as ones that drape in cascade below. Place the plants of your choice in potting soil and I prefer to use soil moist in my planters so that frequent watering is not required.
Soil moist
I use SOIL MOIST in all my potted planters it works wonderfully in out hot dry summers to make watering demands a bit less frequent.
Here’s the link with Q&A and reviews perhaps that can add some more information to assist you to make your choice of effective adjustments to your plant watering schedule. Its available at walmart and big box hardware stores. Happy gardening!

Hi Joan, this is a simple recipe to planting the window boxes,
Slip plants out of their pots without pulling on the stems and gently untangle any circling roots. Set the tallest plants, such as geraniums, in the back of the box. Let the trailing plants, such as lobelia, hang over the front and sides. Fill in with the fluffy plants, such as pansies or impatiens.
