How to install a vintage mantel to a wall, along with a few decorating ideas.

Vintage Mantel

I found this old mantel on Facebook Marketplace to fit into our dining room. We had a space all picked out. You can also find old mantels at flea-markets and antique stores.

Backboard

We first added this white backboard to offset the baseboard on the bottom so it would sit evenly and not slant. If you don’t have baseboards on your walls, you can skip this step as long as the mantel is flush to the wall.

Hooks

We attached two flat hooks, one on each side. Super simple🙌🏻

Drill Hooks

We drilled the hooks into each side so they were super secure.

Drywall Screw & Anchor

Install drywall screw and anchor onto the wall precisely measured to each flat screw on the back of the mantel. The flat hooks will then attach right onto the drywall anchor and screw.

Secure with Wire

We then secured it even more with white plastic coated wire by wrapping it several times as pictured here.

Wall Mount

Fully secured to the wall as shown here.
