Sorry I put my question in the wrong place. I would like to treat it to be a table with no splinters but I don’t want it to be glossy.

Many, many coats of matte finish polyurethane.
Most finishes for topcoats come in matte finish. It just depends on the finish you want. Polyurethane or polycrylic are good choices for tables.
There are clear topcoats available that are water based andtransparent and. They're available in a variety of finishes from very glossy to matte. Just select the correct one.
