This coaster is a super quick pattern, thanks to the super bulky T-Shirt yarn. And yes I timed it, you can definitely make this in 9 minutes or less!

This pattern uses a 'seamless join' technique to avoid that 'slip stitch seam' that you get when you work in the round, and includes a full photo and video tutorial.

I worked 3 rounds for my coaster and it was plenty large enough, but the pattern also includes instructions for adding rounds if you would like to make it a little larger :-)

Video

This video tutorial covers all the steps involved in making the coaster. I highly recommend that you also read the notes too though as it will all come together much more quickly icon

Round 1

To start, work a magic circle and 5 sc (single crochets)

Seamless join to end round 1

Draw loop to back of work and then back to the front to get ready for round 2.

Round 2

Work into the "v" of the previous sc - this is known as the waistcoat stitch. Crochet 2 waistcoat sts (wc) into each stitch around.

Again finish with a seamless join.

Round 3

Work 2 wc, 1 wc around.

Border Round

Sl st in each stitch for the border round

Finish off with another seamless join

All done!

Simple and quick, I like them! But my issue with fabric or yarn coasters is always the same, how do you keep them from getting stained? A drop of red wine, a drop of coffee and you have a stain that'll hardly ever completely disappear.

The video was very nice and easy! My question is if I want to make the coaster one more row bigger, how many wrap arounds should I do for the finishing round? (Also I am guessing I crochet 1 stitch, increase 1 in next 2, and repeat for my increased round. Correct?)

I have seen these at craft fairs only they are dish scrubbers made of a rougher yarn. What are they using???

Being a crafter for many years, I'm intrigued by the system of this coaster. However, I can't see how the final stitch is finished off. Actually, the final step appears to be doubled in the instruction series. Maybe I'm just a senile old lady of 86.....
