Serena & Lily Poetto vase dupe

Budget friendly version of the popular Serena and Lily Poetto vase

1. Tape area

Use painters tape to tape off the area to be painted. Use a tape measurer to make sure the line is level.

The original vase looks like it is painted between 1/3 to 1/2 of the vase height. For my 10” tall vase I chose to paint 3.5”.

2. Tape a bag over the area to remain glass.

I used a ziplock bag (folded over) and taped it very well slightly under the original tape line. You could also use a small garbage sack or additional painters tape.

Make sure all tape seams are tight so paint splatters do t get on the glass that should remain clear.

3. Paint outside

Use a gloss spray paint with primer to paint the exposed vase. Use short spray strokes 6-8 inches away to avoid paint drips and over spraying.

I sprayed one coat and then sprayed a second coat about 30 minutes later.

4. Let vase dry completely

After you have sprayed at least 2 coats of paint (more if necessary) let the vase completely dry.

Remove the bag and tape carefully to help make sure the paint line is clean.

Use a razor blade to clean up any paint smudges around the line.

5. Style your vase

Done! This style vase can be done with any paint color and vase size that matches your home decor.

Suggested materials:
  • Clear glass vase (10” terrarium jar) or any clear vase   (Michaels (or any home goods store/ website))
  • Painters Tape   (Any builder store, Target, Walmart)
