Fireplace mantel

i need to fill in the gap right below my fireplace mantel. It has shifted down, so looks uneven to the wall behind it. I need to press it back against the wall, but that will leave a larger space than seen before corrected. Any ideas of something I can use to fill in the space between the bottom of the mantel and the top of the stone? Thanks for your ideas!
Fill the gap with aluminum foil with the stone surface. Than cover with caulk. You can get caulk in the color of the stone.
The sides and back wall of a typical wood-burning fireplace are constructed using fire bricks and mortar. Over time, excessive heat can adversely affect cement mortar, causing the joints to crack or flake. If you notice bits of mortar on the floor of a fireplace, caulk the cracks using a silicate-based refractory cement caulking that resists heat.
