You take the pallets apart with small pry bar or at least a hammer. Use as your lumber supply. You'll need to build a frame the size you want your garden bed then apply the wood. You'll need to use a waterproof liner for at least the side because the pallet wood won't last a season without it. Also if going to grow vegis realize pallets are usually contaminated with chemicals that would not be good for that. If you don't use a liner, at least seal the inside with several coats Marine Varnish. Good luck but I wouldn't waste my time on pallet wood for most things.
Hi Theresa: Here is a site that talks about gardening with pallets and which ones are safe for gardening. All of them aren't! :/
Theresa here are some ideas for your project.
Here is a tutorial:
How to Make Raised Beds Cheaply From Pallet Wood
This project was featured a while ago. I used 2x8s, and bricks from home depot to make a raised garden planter box. http://www.luckyhometoday.com/mary-mary-quite-contrary/
Be careful of the pallets you use if you're growing vegetables/herbs. Often they are treated with chemicals.
