Be sure to clean them and give them a good coat of primer - or 2. Go to your local home improvement store to get latex enamel paint for cabinets. A satin or semi-gloss sheen is usually good for cabinets.
Clean your cabinets with either TSP or Krud Kutter. Lightly sand after cleaning. Get a good stain blocking primer. Prime with 2 coats and lightly sand in between each coat. I like Sherwin Williams Pro Clasic for cabinets and trim. It goes on smooth and dries to a hard shell.
prime and paint with 2 coats of latex paint. Here’s a tip: I learned to get a super smooth finish in the painted finish, the secret is to use wet black sandpaper, (it’s super duper fine). With the sandpaper wet, it doesn’t removed much if any paint, but smooths it out incredibly well. Then a final coat of paint, beautiful! I used to see that ‘wet sandpaper’ in the store and think “how can you sand something when the paint is still wet?” DUH!! It’s not the paint that’s wet, that definitely has to be dry. It’s the sandpaper that’s wet!

You would have to use a primer first and then use a good quality paint made for cabinets. One example is Benjamin Moore Advanced.

I recently painted one. I washed it with TSP, primed with Kilz 2, then painted. I used RustOleum enamel paint because I wanted it bright and durable.

Prime. Paint with two coats of a good latex. Treat gently for a month Orr so - until the paint cures.

All good suggestions but they forgot to tell you to sand lightly after priming. Makes all the difference in the world.

If they're unfinished, brush on a good quality primer, a couple coats of good quality paint, and seal it with a very durable sealer.
Lightly sand them then paint or stain them your color then varnish them use non yellowing varnish

Once you've sanded and wiped them down for dust, consider using a paint sprayer and follow with a water based sealer. Good luck and stay safe!
