I covered mine with peel and stick floor tiles. I did not peel the backs off just placed right on top of the wire shelving. Worked like a charm.

You could also just get some thin plywood and cut to size.

Cut paneling or thin veneer to size. You can paint it whatever color you like or even cover with contact paper. But the wood will give you more stability on the shelves. I would cut these so they are easy to remove for either touch up painting or cleaning.

Another thing that seems silly but makes a huge difference is to paint the inside of walls a nice clean white. This will make it brighter and look better.

If you want to go all out consider a small battery operated motion light. That way every time someone opens the door a light will automatically come on so you can see inside.

For my stainless steel shelving I put down pictures in frames with the glass intact, and then put the objects on top of the glass.. Just lay the pictures flat. Clean up is easy with window cleaner. My shelves do not habve a lip, just flat surfaces.

You can put foam board or vinyl flooring on it. I've seen pictures where it's been added to the fronts and looks very nice.
