How to Paint a Door

Use a damp rag to wipe any dirt or dust off the door
Use painter's tape to paint off any trim, the floor, knobs, hinges, etc. I prefer to paint with the door closed.
Use a small, high-density foam roller to paint the door. You can use a paint brush to get into any detailed spots, though I have also found you can get into them by pressing with the side of the roller.
Roll carefully to avoid drips. It's better to do 2-3 thin coats than one thick, drippy coat. Let the paint dry completely in between coats of paint for best results.
Remove the tape while the paint is still wet to avoid peeling dried paint off with the tape. Be careful not to smudge the wet paint as you peel off the tape.

In your blog you state the door between the kitchen and garage is fiberglass. Most current building codes require a steel door between an attached garage and living quarters. Removing a door to paint it is not necessary but the best process. I prefer to paint the door hung but I open the slightly so no taping is needed. I also use a foam brush and foam roller. Depending on what the door is made of and the paint used a roller of any kind can create "holidays". That is where the brush comes in play. Used to "lay off" the paint finish in long gentle vertical sweeps to blend the paint and for a smooth finish.

I have an old house and the paint that I am sure is oil is peeling off the interior doors. I suppose I have to scrape the paint off but then there's another color underneath that is probably oil. Can I sand it some and use zinzer primer and then paint? Will it peel off?
