Bathroom fake wallboard tile?

I have this wallboard in my basement bathroom that still look amazing for its age. The flooring and bath sinks and toilet are new. I don’t want rip this out but I’m wondering if I could do peel and stick wall tile over it but the bit of a raised lip between the two sections of that wall board will be ok with peel and stick tile, I don’t want to paint it because we did that in our cottage all that sanding, priming and painting, it’s hard the get paint to adhere to this wall board. Your thought please.

Hi Barb. I think your tile would work well. When we moved in our current house, we put peel-and-stick tile on top of the existing tile. It's been 4 yrs and it still looks great. Good luck Barb. Stay well.
I assume it's tile board with a plastic channel where the seams meet. I think the peel and stick tile should work. Make sure the wallboard is really clean. You may notice the bump tho
I would think you could do peel and stick tile on the flat surfaces of the wallboard but you are correct, the raised lip might be an issue. If the lip is rounded the tiles may or may not bend to adhere. Can you try some peel and stick tiles of your choice just on a small area of that section and see what happens? If you could add a picture of just that area it might be a good way to get a better suggestion. Thanks!
That is a plastic "H" channel the tile board edges slip into. Hides the seam and gives a finished look. What you can do is use a razor utility knife and cut out the bump. Just go slow and be careful so the knife doesn't slip. May take a few passes to cut into it. You will be left with a seam but it will be flat and the peel and stick tile will cover it up. Looks similar to this

I would remove the joining strips and fill with joint compound. Then sand. Clean the entire surface with TSP for adherance. Use extra glue made for the peel & stick tile, it dries tacky and then you put the tile in place.

Hi Barb, you can do that easily, just make a seam along the the lip and will look great! Don't try to go right over the lip though it would look bad, but cut it and put a new sheet on the lip, hope this video helps
