Pulling it out is the best way. If you now it, make sure you use a catcher or it will spread. By all means, do not use a weed eater. It will spread like crazy.

I also suffered with Creeping Charlie! At one point, two thirds of my lawn was taken over. I tried everything under the sun. I finally tried Spectracide Weed and Feed in the hose end sprayer. No mixing and no mess. Spray the lawn down with no rain scheduled for the next few days. Killed the Charlie and he lawn came back stronger than ever.
