Cut the denim to the size you want. Place 2 pieces right sides together and put a layer (or 2) of quilting batting on top. Sew around 3 sides and a little on the 4th side. Turn right side out, press , slip-stitch the opening, and top stitch all the way around.
Denim can be used for the outside layers if that is the fabric you have your heart set on. The inside of the pad though should have a least one layer of heat resistant fabric to help protect the surface it is sitting on.
