Here's an easy one that combines my love of decorating the garden with the Summer holidays. These easy American flag plant stakes use picket fence scraps.

This project started with a couple of picket fence pieces.

They were scraps cut into small pieces.

I painted the top blue and the bottom white, then using one of my favorite American Flag stencils, that came in a set of 3,

I added the stars and stripes with red, white and blue craft paint. I dried my projects in front of the fan to hasten the drying time. I'm a little impatient that way.

When the paint was dry I rubbed on a coat of gel stain to give the flag an antiqued look. This step gives the flag stakes an antiqued look but you can use a clear spray sealer instead.

I added the stakes to the garden and these pretty little scrap-wood picket fence flags look beautiful.
