hi Sandra if you're done with grass you could cover it with several layers of weed fabric and have gravel or mulch brought in to cover it up. They're also making a pretty cool "mulch-like" ground cover made out of recycled rubber that comes in a bunch of different colors.

Lay down layers of newspaper and wet it down...as it decomposes it keep the weeds at bay. Wetting it will keep it from blowing away!

Lord yes. I recently saw that RoundUp has come out with a product that is supposed to kill weed and not damage other plants. We will have to see.

For paver/stone/gravel patios

I use one cup of vinegar, one cup of salt to two gallons water in a garden sprayer. Saturate the weeds till dripping. Do not use on lawn or in garden. Will kill everything. Boiling water on weeds in lawn and garden.

For driveway cracks, between pavers, etc. . .

I boil water, till teapot is screaming(usually have two teapots or pots of water going at one time) . When water reaches boiling point, pour directly on the weeds. You can actually smell the plants cooking (smells greeney, is that a word?). Come back next day and they are cooked and ready to be pulled up quite easily.

Use some natural weed killer.

I agree that pouring hot water over weeds works. I use that method for weeds that grow between the pavers of my patio. If you want to kill the weeds in a big area, you can lay down a tarp and weight it down with rocks, etc. Keep the tarp on the area until the weeds die out - but this method kills anything under it, so I wouldn't use this for an area that has grass that you want to keep.

Don't we all! It's the best way to do it though, getting the whole root out.

I just use an electric weed whacker and Scotts Weed and Feed, and mix grass seed with dirt and spread over the area periodically. Its amazing how thick and lush the grass get when the weeds aren't competing with the grass.
