how can I lighten wood furniture?
Hi Jaime, is it the stain that was put on the furniture that is too dark? You should be able to sand it down well, as close to natural wood as possible. Then apply a clear stain for protection.
You can lighten it by using a paint wash.
You could bleach it get a pickling kit it comes realy nice .
White wash it
I agree - you could white wash it. Thin paint with water and carefully apply over the wood finish.

Depends if it is a naturally dark wood or just stained. If its stained you can paint stripper and sand it off.
You could try white washing the furniture, as mentioned above. Or, you could use chalk paint in a lighter color to paint the furniture. I like the chalky finish Americana paint by DecoArt.
of course that you can ... sanding do wonders ... and then use natural water base stain
Wood bleach can be used on raw wood free of stain or paint to lighten it.... oxyalic bleach. I usually dampen the wood with a spray bottle and then apply the diluted bleach with a paint brush.... it will only lighten while wet, so reapply frequently. Then rinse well with a sponge or damp cloth and a bit of vinegar to stop the action. Once dry and sanded, you can stain, oil or add a top coat of poly.
