they fly around my porch in the evening, when we are outside.
What kind of beetles are they?
Without knowing that, have you considered changing your light bulb to yellow, they may not be as attracted to that?
They might be attracted to lights.
OK, here is my snarky answer. Do they fly around when you are NOT outside? A bug zapper may help.
Bug zappers kill everything, the GOOD and the bad, mostly the good. Get yellow regular bulbs if you can find them. The CFLs don't work.
Put a fan out on your deck. It will help blow them away. A bug zapper will kill the good bugs along with the bad ones.
As Redcatcec recommended, a yellow light, and I use fans. One at each end of the patio, facing in towards the seating area. Works like a charm. I have proper patio fans - indoor fans will also work. Wal-Mart has stand fans for $20. Just make sure you take them in at night or put in the garage.
Ask an entomologist!
I would get some bug repellent candles and try those.
Try sitting in Citronella candle lite. If you haven't already change your outside light bulbs to the yellow bug light bulbs.
Here is how to do it organically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POojzbIT7Bc
Hi Ron: They are attracted to the light. You can use a yellow bulbs or sodium vapor lights in your outlets, or put several citronella candles around to fend them off. I have mint plants around my patio. They seem to hate mint plants. Any mint, spearmint, lemon mint, catnip, etc., Put them in pots as they are invasive. One way to tell a mint plant from a regular plant is that the mint plant has a squarish stem where the others are round. A pot of marigolds works, too :) Here's a site that may help: https://www.westernexterminator.com/pest-free-patio/ Good luck
