How can I get my lilac tree to produce more longer lasting blooms?

This year my lilac tree actually had a few bloosoms on it. But it seemed just as soon as I turned my back they were gone. The tree sits in a partially sunny and shady area and gets well drain off. I prune the blooms as soon as they are spent and then again right before winter sets in. I noticed instead of it having one thick tree trunk it has many smaller stlaks. Are these many littlel suckers stealin all tlhe trees energy to boom or am I missing something in it's care?

You shouldn't prune a lilac before winter as you're cutting off potential blooms.
I would check with your local nursery for info.

Hi Judy. I recommend making a solution of 1 tablespoon of Epson Salts in 1 gallon of water. Mix it well until the salts are dissolved. Pour it on where the plant meets the soil. Then give it a big drink of plain water. The Epson Salts will put enzymes in your soil. Plants thrive with this. And the extra drink of water will help the roots receive the enzymes sooner. Hi Judy, you can prune it back after it's flowered. Just cut the branches you don't want, or those that are dead. They do like a good watering now and lots of sun. If your soil is on the dry side, you can amend it by adding Miracle-Gro® Garden Soil for Trees & Shrubs. In the spring, feed them with a good tree and shrub fertilizer. I would just add some fertilizer - sounds like its just not getting enough nutrients for many blossoms
