Recently I was inspired by a piece of wall art that I found online, and decided that I wanted to recreate something similar for my home. I was excited to get a chance to use my Surebonder hot glue gun for this project.

How it all began

Step 1

I found a blank wall hanging in a local craft store. I loved that it had a clear inlay and on the back a place that I could use to recreate the inspiration piece.

The process

Step 2

Using scrap wood that I already had on hand, I measured down the center to create the long piece. I then cut two smaller pieces to fit on either side of the long piece giving it the look of a “+” sign. I laid all the pieces on the silicone mat and using my Surebonder hot glue gun, glued the pieces together. The silicone mat was great because the glue didn’t stick to the piece when I pulled it up.

Step 3

I used smaller pieces of scrap wood to create a more abstract shape. I wanted to mimic the square in the inspiration picture. Since the craft piece I purchased was 12 x 12, I cut two pieces 6 inches and two pieces 8 inches using my miter saw. I then added two side pieces that were 3 1/4 inches long to act as an accent.

I again laid the four pieces on the silicone mat to create the square, and used the Surebonder hot glue gun to put everything together. Once I let it dry, I attached the two side pieces and let everything cool.

Adding Paint

Step 4

I thought that I wanted the pieces to be different colors, but later decided that I wanted them all to be white to better match my decor. I gave all the wood pieces a good coat of white spray paint and let it sit to dry.

Assembly

Step 5

I started the assembly by roughly laying the larger “+” piece and marked where I would need to put the hot glue on the lip of the wall hanging.

I then also reinforced the seams with more hot glue on the backside just to be safe. Followed by adding a circle of hot glue on the back of the “+” to allow for the small square piece to adhere and set it so the smaller square looked like a diamond inside the square wall hanging.

Final Product

I love the abstract wall art I was able to create using the Surebonder hot glue gun and some scrap wood I had on hand. I felt like I was able to bring my inspiration piece to life in my own way.

The Surebonder hot glue gun was super easy to use and I loved that hot glue didn’t come out of the tip until I pulled the trigger. This is something that isn’t like any other hot glue gun I have used before. I also loved that I had some working time with the glue as I was using it. The glue sticks are bigger than traditional hot glue sticks, which is perfect because I didn’t need to reload the Surebonder hot glue gun at any point during my project.

Surrender glue gun creates AND fixes

As an added bonus, I decided to use the Surebonder hot glue gun to fix a sign on my front porch that was starting to fall apart.

Step 1

I removed the pieces that were barely hanging on. Using pliers I removed the nails. Along the bottom and sides of the wood I added a long bead of hot glue.

Step 2

Then reattached the pieces. The hot glue helped to hold the pieces in place really well, which allowed me a chance to grab my nail gun for extra reinforcement.

All fixed!

Not only is the Surebonder hot glue gun great for projects, it’s perfect for repairing broken things as well.
