I like the way this shiplap is applied just around the fireplace and the white color rather than the black for your house!

Shiplap is part of farmhouse style, along with neutral colors - nothing bright. Painted furniture, reclaimed wood, wire baskets, and add some older items like bowls, bottles, mason jars, etc.

You could paint the fireplace white and put some white trim around the windows. Then get an area rug with light colors

Your current style of metal, wood, and dark colors is just about the opposite of farmhouse. I encourage you to do a lot of research on farmhouse style. Lighter walls, simple shapes (not curly metal), painted wood--these are just a few of the changes needed. Look at a lot of pictures of farmhouse style and look at your space. Ask yourself what's different between what you have and what you see. Paint is your cheapest fix. As you can afford it, start replacing pieces with thrift market finds. Decorating is not an overnight task. Make a plan as to what you want, then have fun looking for items that gradually change your look from what you have to what you want.

I would not shiplap the entire wall. IMO it would be too busy and cluttered looking, and likely would overpower any other aspects of the room.

In the picture of the room posted above, at the present time, there is no main focal point to the wall. All the little bits and pieces seem to be competing with each other for attention and no one is winning. Since the fireplace is located symmetrically in the centre of the wall already, make it and the fireplace surround the prominent feature.

I would paint the fireplacw white, shiplap or board and batten style molding above the mantle. If possible, paint the walls lighter, such as a much lighter beige, a creamy white, crisp white, or pale gray. Trim out the windows with a rustic bright white casing, or even just add some tall drapes to soften them. Drop cloth curtains if you want to DIY, or simple linen ones.

For the dark grey furniture, Perhaps purchase some lighter colored slip covers. The leather couch can work with farmhouse, but add lighter neutral throws and pillows to offset the warmth of the leather.

Your wood floors are amazing, but consider a neutral jute area rug to add some contrast and further brighten up the space. I would replace the corner cabinet with the scroll pattern with something simpler, or paint it white over the black parts to brighten it up.

Put up wooden beams. Make sure every piece for decor is rustic. Shop antique stores, flea markets. Repurpose every old thibg: a watering can can hold flowers, fot instance. Look for doilies, grain sacks, old aprons. I mix old with new. I love hanging things you usually do not see on walls. Pinterest has good ideas.
