What sort of material is directly in front of your front door? concrete, dirt, wooden deck......? Posting a picture of the bottom of the front door will help illustrate the situation.

Whatever you have in the front door area it needs to be slightly sloped away from the door.

Hi there, I'm not sure if you have place above your door to put up a small awning. That could help.

Check our your drainage away from the house-the gutters-are they clogged and where does the rain water go besides toward your front door?

Check out the area in front of your front door, is it sloped away?

  • The ground near your house should be graded to move water away from your house. If it isn't you may need to regrade.

In addition to possibly regrading or adding an awning, note that your downspouts should be diverting rain water no less than 10' from your home's foundation.

Find the path that it’s taking that is running to your front door and block it with a rock wall small like 4 inch ,or use dirt and brick to divert it another way .

  • Try to dig a trench to force it away. I've seen some nice ones lines with rives stones.

As someone else said, I'd start by checking out your gutters--they should help shunt water away from your house. Do you have gutters? Do they need to be cleaned or replaced?

    Hello Miz,

    1. The best possible way would be to build a covered porch.

    2. Next would be to add a porch with a roof and two sides.

    3. Just a canopy would help. or you could get a Storm door!

4 Fit a gutter over your front door maybe?

Hi Miz: If you can, raise the area near your door or slope the area in front of the door down away from your door. Do you have a picture you can show that will let us know what you are dealing with? That would help. Also, you might be able to dig a trench to divert the water away, especially if you have a sidewalk leading away from your front door. Dig it along the sides of the sidewalk and maybe fill it with mulch. Good luck

Hello. Check your gutters and downspouts to make sure they have free flow from rain water.

This is been a very common problem in past residences we’ve lived in. The water probably would even cause the wood molding around the door to rot. Be sure that there’s proper caulking around the door frame and that the Door gaskets are intact.

Agree with Vimar that gutter downspouts need to move water away from the building, I had to add extensions to mine to keep the water from pooling next to the house.

If that doesn't solve the problem you may have to add a channel drain next to the door and a french drain. Check out the many solutions on Apple drains videos, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZmctiwpLN4&t=96s they have lots of videos, click on their name
