Hello my home is 4 years old. I noticed this week that the outside faucet leaks under pressure when the hose and sprinker is attached. I have changed sprinkler and replaced the washer in the hose....still leaks...the faucet is under a window and the wall and floor is not wet. It does not leak when the water is turned off. My home is in a slab.. Any advice...Thank you

Be sure where It is leaking. Wipe it totally dry. If you have a nozzle put it on the end of the hose and shut it off. Inspect the hose fitting and the faucet. Run your fingers over it then wipe it off and feel it again.

Ot will either be leaking from the hose fitting (but you say you changed the washer so it shouldn’t) or from the top of the faucet by the handle. If it it the top of the faucet you might need to tighten the nut or change the packing. In order to change the packing you have to turn off the water supply to the faucet.

Do à YouTube search for ‘leaking Outside faucet’ or ‘leaking hose bib’..

I've tighten the handle and the nut on the spigot...it was already pretty tight. It is leaking from where the arrow is pointing...the hose is dry the fitting dry only thing wet is the wall....and the sprinkler working 🤷‍♀️

  • I would contact a professional to get to the source of the leak. It could be leaking inside the wall and you just haven't seen it yet.

I would contact a professional to get to the source of the leak. It could be leaking inside the wall and you just haven't seen it yet.

One of the most well-known causes of water leaks — especially in the winter — are pipes that burst after the water inside them begins to freeze and expand. The pipe eventually ruptures when that pressure becomes too much for it to contain. So how do you know?

Ultimately, you can’t — only a plumber can tell by putting a camera down there and having a look. However, you can definitely have an accurate suspicion. Contacting a professional to get to the source of the leak is the best advice I can give. You can find a good one here fastplumbers.net.au, they always help me in such situations.

It's possible the connection between the hose bib and pipe may have loosened or corroded. Like Ann says it might also be leaking in the wall. If your capable of removing the hose bib or call a plumber or handy man

Have you checked how well the hose connector seals with your faucet? Sometimes the connector has a little dent in it, in the metal part, and it doesn't seal well when the water pressure hits it. We had one that didn't seal completely and when the flow was turned up, the water would spray on the wall behind the faucet. Have you tried a different hose to compare? Once you've tried this and the other suggestions, you might need a plumber, but, my money is on the connection between the faucet and hose. Good luck and stay safe!

The hose connector is the most probable culprit and hopefully it is. If you cannot locate the leak source, get a plumber in to resolve it before you have a big problem.

We are going through a similar situation with our spigot leaking and a slab foundation.

I wonder if it is the switch or the piece you turn to turn it on is damaged. I would look on YouTube on how to replace this part then take your photo to the hardware store and see if they have a replacement.

Hello. If it’s not the connection I would personally triple check that— I might suggest calling for professional evaluation perhaps the actual water hydrant needs to be changed.

All garden hoses are not created equally.

My suggestion to eliminate the leaking at the spigot or water faucet is to purchase high quality hoses with thick brass fittings and rubber washers.

With a cheaper quality plastic hose and 'mystery metal' thin ends, when you try to tighten the hose on the water source, the threads get easily stripped and then the connection is no longer sealed.

I have changed the hose....tighten the hose and checked the faucet....but when pressure build up there is a back flow that causes the leak....Any advice

The stem that the handle is attached to comes up through a nut. That nut is the packing nut for the stem washer. Most of the time if you turn that nut less then a 16th of a turn the leek will stop. I find the same problem under sink and with toilet shut of valves of you use them. A 1/4 turn ball valve is the best thing to use.
