Permanent fabric pens?

I’m in the process of making a stuffy for my 2 yr old granddaughter. I would like to paint on the eyes, nose, mouth. It of course will be washed so I wkould like to know if there are paint pens that would stay bright through washings.

Hi Sharon: The best brands are: Jacquard, Tulip, and Liquitex I've used them all with great success. Make sure the paint is non-toxic, which most of these are. Good luck and happy sewing :) I love making toys for kids :)

Hi Sharon. Sharpie and Tulip are both good choices for permanent markers on fabric. The Sharpie set can be purchased at Wal Mart for $14 it's an 8-pack. You can pick up Tulip markers at Michaels for $3 each.

Hi! All excellent suggestions. Had you thought of embroidery or appliques instead? That's how I did all the dolls and little animals I did for for my girls. I taught myself some basic stitches and never had to worry about them holding up. The material tended to wear out first! Good luck and stay safe!

Sharpie markers would work great for this project. I like the idea of embroidery too. Not so sure appliques would be best because they can come off. unless very firmly attached.

Sharpies will probably be your best bet. You can get them in all colors. We have used fabric markers as well in this project:

Those colors are still so bright on that pouch after a long period of time. I think I washed the pouch once and it was fine.

Yes, there are a variety of markers you can get that are laundry safe as well as paint pens or paint in small tubes. My mother used to decorate sweat shirts and t-shirts and she had a wide variety of colors of the laundry safe paints.

Hello. Sharpie markers for work. In addition you can use acrylic paints with fabric medium with dilution to a one to one ratio.

You could do something like this with fabric medium and colored pencils. It should be waterfast.
