How would you paint wood floors?

Tape off the baseboards, use Floor & Porch Paint, a low nap roller and a long pole. If the floor is bad shape you may want to sand off chips first. I would do 2 coats and also maybe a Satin poly top coat.

Sand lightly and use a primer. Two coats works well. Then use any latex paint. Seal with two coats of polyurethane. If you do not want the color to change use the Crystal clean polyurethane. Regular will turn the color a light brownish tint.

Hi Shannon. Sand them first. Then clean all sanding dust off. This could take several attempts to get it all off. Then prime and then paint. And finally seal the floors.

When I paint a floor, I clean it really well, first. If there are any rough spots or damage, repair it first. If needed, a product like Henry's floor leveler and patch can be used to smooth out damaged areas. Use a light hand and use a putty knife to level and smooth it. The stuff is like concrete when it dries. Then use floor paint. I've used different brands, but, the Behr floor paint goes on great. I use a roller with an extension handle and a brush for the edges. A wide painter's tape works great to protect baseboard. Good luck and stay safe!

Hi Shannon, I have painted wood floors and it did not seem to last. tha paint wore off pretty quickly. It may be better if you top coat it with sealer. Good luck.

Clean thoroughly, then use a paint formulated for wood floors, usually called "porch and floor paint".

I would take my Paint a brush or two ( one for cutting in and a wider one for main body of floor and a kneeling pad. Go to the far corner of your room and work backwards to the door. You could also start by cutting in at the perimeter all around first then using a long reach paint roller, paint the centre of the room, working as always to the door. Best wishes.

It’s worth every bit of time and materials to fully prep the floor well. It’s tedious, but floors get a ton of wear.

I would invest in an oil-based exterior-grade porch floor paint, unless the VOC’s are high. Once again, more work in the clean-up of brushes & rollers, but worth it.

Keep in mind that painting floors requires a certain amount of physical agility and ability to bend and stretch.

Scuff or sand, then clean thoroughly with tsp or denatured alcohol. Then paint using a floor paint with a roller. Use a brush to cut in at base boards.
