I saw this piece on my local Facebook marketplace and purchased it in hopes of stripping it and finding wood underneath the paint. I have done it before many times and tought this time will be no different.

Before
Testing the waters

When I brought it home it became obvious after sanding a part of the dresser that the only part of this dresser that is made of wood were the 4 legs....

I decided that I definitely wanted to add some wood accents the most inexpensive way possible so I went to home depot and purchased a quarter of an inch thick birch plywood.

The drawers were luckily flat so I couldn't easily glue them to the front.

Glue
Gluing on the plywood

I marked the plywood with pencil to match the size of the drawers and had them cut to the exact size. I applied wood glue to both the drawers and the plywood. I used

Birch plywood

This is a quarter inch birch plywood purchased at home depot. I picked birch because it has a nicer grain that regular plywood but still very affordable.

Gluing the drawers

I don't have clamps so I used a 25 pound weight to keep pressure on the glue and drawers. It worked fine but would probably purchase clamps if I worked with this method more often.

Adding something special

I wanted a touch of black on the drawers too so I used a ruler and a sharpie pen to create my geometric design. After I applied a polyurethane clear coat on the drawers I added black modern knobs and voila it was all done.

All done

I really like the combination of the raw light wood and black paint. I think the geometric design on the front ties it together nicely. If you like this transformation follow me on Instagram @andreapalmai

Adding something special

to make the design on the drawers I just used a sharpie, a ruler and once it was all done I applied a polyurethane clear coat.

Were the drawers flush with the frame when done? I think that 1/4" would make the drawers stick out from the frame.
