What's the best climbing vine for tropical climate?
I have some old window bars that I want to turn into a garden trellis. What would be the best kind to grow in a shaded garden in a tropical climate? We have very dry summers (no rain and hot) and lots of rain in the winter months.

Personally, I like Bougainvillea or Honeysuckle.
Clematis has a few varieties that would work. Go with darker colors and add mulch to the base to hold water. Check out to see if there is a variety for your area. I'm in 7b and my parents have one. Mother rooted from a piece she got from another plant. She doesn't do anything to it.

Pothos would probably work. You'll have to water it in the summer though.

Hi Sara. I'm Cindy. Some plants that vine are Lilac Vine, Jasmine, Bougainvillea, and my favorite, Honeysuckle. These plants are all drought resistant and they will climb on your new garden trellis beautifully. Good luck Sara. Hope all is well with you.
