Making a Garden Shed Sign From Scrap Wood / Budget Friendly Simple DIY
I thought it would be fun to make a Garden Shed sign so I went through my scrap wood and found a board to use
for this project.
I cut it down to size and used some sandpaper to smooth out the edges then it was time to start decorating!
I chose to paint the sign white using acrylic paint.
Then I measured my sign to get a exact measurement so I knew how to make my stencil to use with this project.
Using my computer I made a stencil for my sign.
I chose to use adhesive backed drawer liner that I purchased previously at dollar tree instead of using my good vinyl.. much cheaper option for a project like this one.
I placed my stencil onto my sign and used a sponge brush and black paint to add the words.
Then I simply went over the edges of the sign and various places lightly with the same brush to give it a more rustic look.
(process is shown in video)
I knew I wanted to add a fun element to my sign so I purchased a wood butterfly and chose to paint the wings a pretty shade of aquamarine.
I used black paint for the body and also distressed the butterfly in the same kind of way that I did the sign by going around the edges with my sponge brush.
I attached the wood butterfly to my sign using wood glue.
Then I needed to add a hanger so I simply drilled 2 holes into the top of my sign.
I chose to use jute for the hanger, however looking back I think using wire would have been a fun option and I could have curled or spiraled the ends out for a fun look.
I think the jute looks fine too though. :0)
The last thing I did was spray a couple coats of acrylic sealer onto the sign to help protect it from the elements and this project was done.
I love how it turned out and am so happy I added the bright pop of color with the whimsical butterfly!
Such a fun addition to hang outdoors.
Because I had everything on hand for this project except for the wood butterfly it actually cost me less than one dollar for this project.. love that!

I have wondering how to make a stencil with computer. Do you need a cricut or it is printed with a regular printer?
