Hi Kathy I would use a white wash meaning: white paint watered down - it would act as more of a dye as opposed to just hardcore paint which I fear would crack and break over time. Good luck!

Hello. Certainly there are plastic friendly spray paints —It may depend on the amount of use the blinds get and the friction and folding.

I have painted several resin Adirondack chairs with plastic friendly spray paints and they lasted for five years now the pain is chipping off. In my situation my chairs were exposed to outdoor weather conditions only in the summer and stored in a sheltered area during winter time.

Factors of temperature swings caused by weather and moving the blinds up and down may affect the paint adhesion and durability.

Roller blinds or shades don't have to stay their original, bland colors. You can dress them up with a fresh coat of paint or painted designs. Acrylic craft paint can be used on both fabric or vinyl blinds, but vinyl requires a coat of plastic primer first for best results.

Hi Kathy, sorry, I think I answered your question above thinking that the blinds were vertical blinds. The same does hold true for roller blinds though. I would lay it out flat on a tarp in the grass and then paint it. You can use a good spray paint or a brush but with mesh spray paint will definitely look better and take a lot less time. Let it dry completely and then turn over and do the same. Best of luck!

Hi Kathy. Yes, you can paint your vinyl blinds. You should use either fabric or acrylic paint. Prepare the shades by cleaning them and then use a plastic primer on them. Paint them and hang them when they are dry. Good luck Kathy. Hoping all is well with you.

    Folks,

the question asks about painting vinyl mesh roller blinds, not venetian blinds.

Vinyl mesh would best be spray painted with a enamel made for painting plastics.

I would either hang them from a clothes line or a 6’ fence, extended out and paint it like a car:

steady horizontal strokes, about 12-15” away- and go two LIGHT coats, as runs in the mesh will fill in the mesh and look obvious.

Depending on how drastic of a color change you want, this could take a whole can of paint per blind.

Hi! I would lay one out on a tarp, dust and clean well, and then use a spray paint that is intended for vinyl. I stenciled one like that years ago and it was really pretty. Take your time, apply light coats and allow to dry thoroughly before hanging them back up. Good luck and stay safe!

  • You can paint them and make them over in many ways for quick facelift. Here's a bunch of ideas. https://www.curbly.com/16152-how-to-roundup-10-diy-roller-shade-makeovers

That might be tricky! I would try it with a very dry brush so you don't fill in the holes in the mesh with paint.
