Getting back to the dry wall?

Any drywall experts out there? We’re exploring the depths of drywall that has been here for a few layers of paint and wallpaper and got to this yellow. Anyone know if this is the drywall (painted or otherwise)? Have we gone too deep and taken a layer off the drywall itself?
One point of feedback was this could be moisture/mold resistant drywall.
Any thoughts?
Wow. You have me curious too. Is there a particular room in your house this is found? It looks like something that would be in the kitchen. Hope you find your answer.
The house was built in 1976. It’s a river cottage about 8” foot off the ground. This is a bedroom. Maybe we just went too deep?

Drywall is usually a whitish colour. Try scratching into it and see if it is a powder. I think that could be a painted layer.
Yes it looks like you took the paper off but no worries just sparkle the spot and you won’t see it.
I think you’re dealing with yellow paint underneath wallpaper. It looks like the product over the yellow has lifted and is beginning to peel. The paper on drywall doesn’t do that because of the manufacturing process and materials that are used. The paper on drywall is laid down on top of the gypsum while it’s still wet and the two bond together.
I have never seen yellow drywall. It is more then likely paint. Once you get down as deep as you need to, and before applying a layer of mud, brush with a good primer/sealer. Let dry and mud over top. Use a long board style sander to level with rest of surface. It may take a couple times mudding to get id smooth. Good Luck
If it no longer is peeling in that area, wash it, prime it, spackle it and move on to the next section of archeological digs. 💁🏼♀️
I agree with "Lifestyles Homes". If it's not peeling spackle--use thin smooth layers and sand between until you get a level smooth surface. Prime and paint. It looks like you still have some wallpaper backing that needs to be removed around the yellow area.
At one time ,Lowe's sold a drywall that had a yellow finish. I believe it was for damp areas or property built around damp areas such as lakes or oceans. It was supposed to repell mold and whatnot. I haven't seen it for 10 years or so. BTW if you had mold or mildew problems, it would be black, grey ,greenish and possibly spiderweb designs in it. Your picture looks like th at yellow drywall
it seams sturdy so I would sand and go along with painting
