If you are a collector of perfume and looking for a new way to display them, then this stand is for you. Over the years my collection has outgrown the basket that I used to store them in, and it looked very messy. So this perfume display stand became my next DIY project. It was made from all recycled wood and the surface was covered with diamond mesh for the sparkling effect.

This was my old storage which was great to start with, but now the bottles are all tipping over.

Because the wood was going to be covered with the diamond mesh using scrap wood is OK to use, so ignore all the different kinds of wood. To make a stand to my specks here is the sizes of wood you will need.

  • 600 mm x 40 mm x 40 mm (Front step)
  • 600 mm x 40 mm x 100 mm (Middle Step)
  • 600 mm x 10 mm x 150 mm ( Back support)
  • 600 mm x 10 mm x 350 mm (Base

Find the middle of the piece of wood and draw the semi-circle, and cut it out using a jigsaw. And here comes my first mistake Oops, this is what happens when you make projects up as you go along.

As you can notice from the semi-circle above I did not take into account the wood that would be needed to go under the stand to join the whole stand together.

To fix this error I cut another piece of wood and glued it to the bottom. The image above is how the base should look.

If you are using recycled wood like me, you will need to sand all the dirt and debris off the surface. This step does not need to be perfect you just need a clean surface so the spray adhesive will stick properly.

Assemble the stand

To assemble the stand, drill pilot hole in the middle piece of wood and countersink the holes. This will allow the screws to sit flush with the wood and allow the back piece of wood will sit flush too.

Screw the middle piece of wood into the front one first, then screw the back piece into the middle piece. I also count sunk the screw holes in the back piece of wood. If you don't have the tools needed you can also glue the wood together.

Paint the stand

I chose to paint the stand because you could see the wood colour through the mesh, which was ugly. So the colour you chose will depend on the colour of diamond mesh you use. It comes in lots of different colours.

Adding the mesh

For my first attempt at adding the mesh I used craft glue, but the blobs of glue came through the mesh. Cut the mesh to size leaving some excess each side. Spray the stand and the back of the mesh with spray adhesive and wait until tacky, approximately 10 minutes.

Place the mesh on the stand, making sure you line up the mesh. I did not notice until it was too late to pull the mesh off again.

Cut away the excess

This mesh is made from soft plastic so it was easy to away the excess with scissors.

Finally you can join the two pieces back together either with the glue or screw it together. If you do use glue and need to clamp the wood. Add some paper tissue under the clamps so they don't crush the mesh.

And this is the stand complete. It has the most amazing sparkle which does not show up in the photos.

This house number was a request from my daughter, she wanted a no maintenance flower box and a solar light for night time.

Shoe ring holder

Do you have an old pair of shoe that are to high for you to walk in. Why not give them a makeover and turn them into ring holders.
