Just routine cleaning? I use a damp microfiber cloth. If there are marks or stain like areas, try a baking soda paste or a soft scrub like Mrs. Meyers makes. If you are referring to window frames, brush any loose dirt out of the track and vacuum if you can. Good luck and stay safe!

The window cleaning supplies needed to clean aluminum window frames are liquid dish soap, a scouring pad, and a soft toothbrush or cotton swab to clean the inside corners. After the window frames are clean, rub the area with a little mineral oil (food oils can turn rancid) or even baby oil to keep the window moving smoothly.

    White Vinegar

    1. Use a dry, nylon scrub brush to brush away any dirt and debris from the window.

    2. Pour equal parts white vinegar and water into a bucket.

    3. Dip the scrub brush into the water and vinegar solution and scrub the frames until the white, powdery spots from the oxidation disappear.

    4. If the oxidation still remains, you can use a stainless-steel wire brush to brush the window frames.

    5. Finally, rinse the window frame with water and use a rag to wipe the surface dry.

Hi Sondra. To clean the window tracks, all you need is bi-carb soda, vinegar, and an old toothbrush. Cover the tracks with bi-carb soda. Add a little vinegar and leave it for a few minutes. Next use the toothbrush to scrub the tracks. Work the dirt toward the middle and wipe it all up with a clean damp cloth. Good luck Sondra. Hope all is well with you.

    Aluminium frames on windows?

  • Peggy L Burnette Peggy L Burnette on Jun 23, 2020

Hi Sandra, hope this helps you. I think you want to clean a frame, such as a picture frame. Aluminium doesn't get clean with any alkaline-based substance such as laundry powder. Use acid-based substances such as citrus juice or white vinegar (basically, any mild acid). Scrub hard with or boil in a vinegar or lemon juice solution.Dec 2, 2019

    Hello Sondra,

Use Barkeepers friend and a little water. Hope that helps.

Solution of vinegar and dish soap. I love barkeepers friend as well. What kind of aluminum frame. A shower frame? window frame? Sliding door frame? What is this. Might help narrow down how to clean it.

Aluminum corrodes, if it’s got damaged anodizing and will continue to oxidize.

If they’re old fashioned folding lawn chairs, then yes, use Comet or Ajax on them as they weren’t clear coated nor anodized to begin with.

If they are your home’s windows & doors, then be gentle with them and vinegar should be diluted.
