Dollar Store Summer Sign

What’s more fun than making a dollar store sign for summer? Maybe jumping into the pool afterwards! So…you don’t have a pool? Neither do I, but this is the perfect gift to take over to your friends who do have one! That might just result in an invitation to swim! I would love to have you stop by my blog , Celebrate & Decorate for the full tutorial as well as sign up for my latest creations, posts, recipes, exclusives, and more...

Begin with seven dollar store flip flops. I played around with mine trying to decide which ones I liked best. This was just one version. The flip flops do not have to match as you will see!

Select some fun colors of puffy paint. I am still staying close to home, so I just ordered these on Amazon.

Use the paints to write a single letter on each flip flop. I used WELCOME, but you can use your last name, or SUMMER, or whatever you would like!

This is what I ended up with for my combination of flip flops with the letters on them.

A scrap piece of wood can be used. You can often find these at the Home Depot near the saws. The leftover pieces from larger ones can be had for free (but do ask first). I needed a piece just about 24 inches long.

Cut a piece of colorful ribbon about one yard long.

Tie a knot in each end of the ribbon and use a staple gun to secure each end to the back of the piece of wood. If you don’t have a staple gun, you could drill a hole in each end of the wood and thread the ribbon through the holes and then knot it.

I used this fun plaid ribbon that is perfect for summer! Since the board might show between the flip flops, I used hot glue to cover the board with the ribbon.

Use hot glue or your favorite craft adhesive to attach the flip flops to the ribbon covered board.

Pop the heads off of some faux daisies and use glue to attach them to your flip flops and between them.

Add a bow tied from the same ribbon and you are ready to display your summer sign!  You can see more of my projects here
