Hi! First, be vigilant about standing water, because that's where they reproduce. We use citronella candles and Aunt Fannies Mosquito spray and wipes. Good luck and stay safe!
Mosquito bits or Dunks for wet land areas, septic, lawns, gravel, ditches, house plants(fungus gnats too),outdoor gardens, ponds, fountains, standing water anywhere non toxic not a chemical works really well info.
Citronella burners work great.
You could call a local team to come out to spray your lawn for mosquitos. That would help kill them. Otherwise, get tiki torches to surround your outdoor area, citronella candles and use outdoor spray for your skin.
If the bites are that bad, definitely tell her to use DEEP WOODS Off. I wouldn't go outside without it. Sounds difficult!

Be sure the area is free of any standing water - old tires, containers, etc. Use cedar mulch in garden beds to keep them from nesting. They also dislike certain plants like, basil, lavender, lemon balm, and lemongrass.
Hi Patsy, there are lots of ideas here:
I know this is a DIY site but I gave up and bought a device. It's called Dyna Trap and it lures then traps a multitude of flying pests, including mosquitoes. I purchase a 1 acre version 3 years ago and although I still run it, I haven't seen a mosquito or any other flying insect this season.
I use citronella oil in my diffuser
The best way to prevent mosquitos from biting you is to spray/coat first with OFF or a similar brand that contains a high % of DEET.
The example shown below, OFF Deep Woods contains 25% DEET.

As Ann recommended, planting numerous pots or large swaths near staircases, railings, patios with marigolds, lemon grass, lemon balm, basil, sages, lavender, basil, etc. will repel flies and mosquitoes. Placing a water wiggler device in your birdbath avoids mosquito egg laying. Make sure your downspouts divert water at least 10' away from your home's foundation, and cover gutters with Gutter Helmet, Leaf Guard, etc. Check your yard regularly for plant saucers/containers/tarps, etc. that retain rainwater, and empty them, immediately.
Hi Patsy, yes the mosquitos love me and leave my husband alone, go figure. Hope this helps you.

Depending on individual persons immune systems, various supposed mosquito repellents such as citronella candles, oils, or home-made sprays are ineffective in preventing bites from occurring.
For these persons, usually genuine DEET is the only effective preventative.
Not all products within the same brand line, such as OFF, contain the same % of DEET however. The two examples below contain only 15% DEET, whereas the Deep Woods, mentioned in my comment above, contains 25% DEET.
Read the labels before purchasing.
We can't ever seem to kill them, they just keep coming from anywhere so we use Thermacell Patio Shield (that's an affiliate link). The best product we've ever used, it's unscented and it truly works, it's amazing.
