What color/or colors should I paint the background board for my Hello?

Yes dark!!! Have you seen Rustoleum black stainless steel? It's beautiful. Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze would look nice too. spray paints are fast and look great!

What if, instead of painting a dark background, you paint the letters of the ‘hello’ a neon color such as neon pink and make it a faux neon sign?

A dark color you love......Purple?, Teal, Dark Green, Navy? Any would really set off the gold "hello".

I would go with a darker gray or darker blue. That will create a great contrast between the sign and the beige house and white door. If you want a pop of brighter color, you could go with a brighter blue or magenta

I'd do a pop of color - make it turquoise to match the birdhouses!

Perhaps choose a dark or bright color you love. If you have accessories nearby, use the same color so the "hello" will pop agains the neutral background.

How about turquoise like the pretty planter in your picture?

A dark color would really make the gold sign stand out.
