If there are no plants or flowers in the beds you want to save, start by mowing or pulling the weeds and then spraying with a weed killer and wait a couple days before replanting. I know some of the weed killers I use you can replant once it dries but you have to wait 4 hrs.

Then you can plant flowers or shrubs whatever you would like. I would start with a clean slate and then you won't be so overwhelmed.

Because the cost of food is going up, because our supply chain is broken, then I would plant it all in garden foods.

Marigolds & onions around the perimeters to deter the squirrels & rabbits.

Also check with your local city or county public works department and find out where they mulch their trees, and see if you can go to that yard and pick up free mulch.

In your pics it looks as though all you have right now are weeds. Dig up the soil and turn, pulling all weeds with their roots. Pull out the border pieces as you work and set aside. Once all is cleaned up you can then decide where you want beds and set the blocks in place. Plant new flowers/grasses/shrubs and spread mulch. Voila! 😎

I would find out what grows as a blooming perennial there and fill those beds up with those :) You can mulch around them every spring and you won't have to worry about many weeds!

Ok, Shay, what to do depends on what you want! If you'd like a small garden bed, then by all means, pull up those old borders and dig out the soil the size you'd like the bed. Get rid of the weeds as best you can. Now, depending on where you live (climate) and what you want to see there (flowers, greenery, vegetables) do some research to find out the most successful plants for that bed. I'd go ahead and supplement the soil with compost and if it tends to get wet a lot shovel in some sand as well. Mix it up and then replace your borders and fill it evenly with the new soil. Plant your plants. Invest in a plant food called Superthrive. The bottle is expensive but you dilute it A LOT to use - just follow the directions. Once everything is in place, layer about 2 - 3 inches of pine or cypress mulch around the plants and over the bed. Either will work to help retain moisture and keep the soil temperature level. Cypress mulch, however, does not float away in the event of a lot of rain. Care for the plants as the label describes and enjoy a job well done for years to come!

First of all mow the lawn and the borders. Then whilst keeping the lawn cut regularly, tackle the borders a little at a time. Clear the weeds. If you don't know what are weeds and what's not. Call in a gardener to sort it out for you, or Clear the lot and re-plant with flowering shrubs for low maintenance.

You'll need to remove all the weeds, maybe lay down some weed blocker fabric, then depending on your planting zone and how much sunlight this area gets, pick some plants. Note how large they get before buying anything. Try to pick plants native to your area.
