We have built-ins on either side of our gray brick fireplace, and I would love to paint the fireplace out in white. However, my husband feels it would be a bad idea.
You can paint it. Just make sure you use an oil based paint and clean it really well before you start.
Hi Amanda, this video will show you how - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lxZsGImMDo. The most important thing is to use the correct floor paint and prep well.
hello Amanda,
You will need to flatten the rest of the pattern using a sander maybe or by hand, then prime and then use floor paint. Good luck!
Sand the floor first. Here is a great tutorial on Hometalk:

How To Paint Linoleum Floors
You have been given lots of good advice, Amanda, but the key will be to even-out the floor. You say some parts still have a pattern while other parts are worn smooth. Unless you get everything smooth, I don't think you'll be happy with the look. It may be less work to cover it with new vinyl tiles or planks.

When I did a similar update, I scrubbed the floor to remove every speck of dirt using a product like Krudkutter. Then I primed the floor before painting it with floor paint. Since it is an area that may get wet, I would also use a clear drying sealer on it. Good luck and stay safe!
